In hot weather, the body tires more quickly. Concentration declines, movements become less precise, and the risk of feeling unwell or suffering from heatstroke increases. These effects can affect anyone, regardless of physical condition, and sometimes without any obvious warning signs.
The key is, in a word: preparation. A few simple habits are enough to significantly reduce the risk.
💧 Stay hydrated regularly, even before you feel thirsty.
🌡️ Adjust your work pace and tackle the most physically demanding tasks during the coolest hours of the day.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade, in a cool place.
🦺 Keep your PPE on, as it also provides protection from the sun.
👀 Stay alert to others: a pale complexion, confused speech, or unusual fatigue should raise a red flag. When in doubt, stop what you’re doing and notify someone.
Heat management is a collective responsibility. Taking care of yourself is important. Looking out for one another is what makes the difference.
This summer, let’s stay alert, plan ahead, and take care of one another. Together, let’s continue pursuing our ongoing goal: #ZeroAccident.
